Welcome

Welcome to DIY OpenOffice Business  Solutions

A resource forum for Automated Tools and Innovative Business Programming

I enjoy the open source (no cost) license of  OpenOffice, but wanted the same macro automation I had with MS Office

So I re-wrote my MS Office business and engineering solutions in OpenOffice.

This Forum is to help you get the most efficiency from  OpenOffice applications. Whether you're a Power User or just need some canned automated solutions.

In the process of figuring out how to write macros in OpenOffice, I'm created and I'm ready to offer three macro solution books that explains how to create useful practical solutions in OpenOffice writer, calc, and draw applications.

You can use my canned solutions from the book as is, or modify them or make your own. The books walk through and explains simple to more complicated solution examples like the dialog below:

This task manager tool required some programming flags to manage the user interaction. If you've never used flag bits, it's a basic tutorial ;)

My first canned solutions was to help my significant other.
I created a spreadsheet to track her massage clients. I created a simple gui to assist her in inputting new clients;  filling in the town and state based on only zip code input.
I created a last name search tool and then a birthday search tool to select clients whose birthdays were coming up.for marketing announcements..

And, finally a tool to print mailing labels based on a selection of clients to promote specials.

Then I re-created my MS office macros in OpenOffice to automate work contracts and statements of work for my own consulting. Then, I created ways of hiding sheets and columns on sheets, depending on what state I was working with for a company/client.

The Draw book was started when I realized that there was no property system with common draw objects. I created one so that common shape objects works more like Visio objects.

With properties, you can draw a shop floor or computer lab, assign power requirement properties for the equipment and then roll up how much power and HVAC you'll require.
A need for a rapidly growing start up.

So what do you need for your business?

What repetitive office or engineering tasks would you like to automate?

What new method, process or tools do you need?

This is my sweet spot of technology and consultation where I can give you that technological advantage, that edge.  And I'm not limited to just OpenOffice. I have a experience with knowledge representation, natural language programming, and practical implementations in a variety of media and internet tools. I know more languages than most college kids will ever connect with.
